Feeding Guidelines

Hubbard Life Happy Hound Dog Food can be fed right from the bag, or mixed with water or broth. Mix 1 part warm liquid with 4 parts food. Happy Hound Dog Food will retain its shape when served moist.

Always have clean, fresh water available for your dog.

Mature dogs should be fed once or twice per day. Find your dog’s approximate weight on the chart to determine the amount of food you should feed daily. If your dog is active, use the larger amount. Less active dogs should be fed the smaller amount.

Adult dog body weight Standard 8 oz. measuring cups per day*
Toy 3-12 lb. 2/3 - 1 3/4
Small 12-25 lb. 1 3/4 - 2 1/2
Medium 25-50 lb. 2 1/2 - 4
Large 50-80 lb. 4 - 6 1/2
Very Large over 80-100 lb.        6 1/2 - 9 plus 1/2 cup for each additional 10 lb. body weight over 100 lb.

* One standard measuring cup equals 3.9 oz. (109 grams)

Pregnant or nursing dogs will consume 1½ to 3 times as much food as the adult guidelines. Adjust amount fed according to the dog’s body condition, appetite and the number of puppies being nursed.

Nursing puppies can start eating moistened dry dog food at 3 to 4 weeks of age. Allow them to eat as much as they want.  After they are fully weaned (6 to 8 weeks), keep dry food available for them at all times.  Feed them 4 times a day until they are 3 months old.

Always have clean, fresh water available for your puppy.

Dogs kept outdoors during cold winter months may require 35-50% more food. Hot weather may decrease your dog’s appetite.
